Welcome to our class blog! This little space of information will be our main source of communication throughout the year along with email. We have an extremely exciting school year ahead of us, so we will be sharing news, achievements and events in this website. In this blog you will find our grade level notices and any other information that is of interest to all the Grade 3 family. In the top left hand corner you will see links to your child’s specialists pages, where you will be able to see snippets of what the students have been up to in their individual specialists lessons.
Thank you so much for your help and support over these last few weeks. The party was great fun and all the children behaved wonderfully. IMG_7664
On our final day we had a marble challenge and lots of fun and games. I want to personally tell you that l have greatly enjoyed teaching your children. They are wonderful people with a great outlook in life. I will miss each and everyone of them. They are the reason l wanted to teach. Thank you for making this year so wonderful.
I cannot believe we are heading into our final week here at school, just a few important reminders for everyone. On Tuesday we have the dress rehearsal for the concert. Please ensure the children have a bright colored top sent into school before this. On Wednesday the concert takes place at 11.00 to 12.00 in the theater. I hope many of you will be able to come along and watch the children perform.
On Wednesday afternoon we are going to have a celebration with the other Grade 3 classes. Please could you send the children with their swimming gear. We will have a pool party for about 40 minutes. We will then come up to the classrooms. The children can bring a game from home they want to share, such as a board game or cards. They can also bring a small snack in if they wish.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
During their Business and Ethics unit, G9 Humanities students have been busy creating product ideas and working in teams to turn these ideas into high quality products. On Wednesday, 7 June, the SSIS community will have a chance to buy the students’ products at the annual Product Sale. The G9 students will sell their products from stalls located in the foyer for 10:30am to 2:05pm. Products will include crafts, stickers, snacks and drinks, and product prices will typically be less than 10 RMB. There will be no products containing nuts or caffeine for sale.
A portion of the profit generated from the Product Sale will be used to buy prizes for the students with the most successful products. The remainder of the profit will be donated to SSIS-designated charities.
Elementary students will have the opportunity to buy the products during the snack and lunch break. If you would like to support this then please send some money to school with your child on the 7th June.
We are heading into busy weeks now and l will try to keep you updated with all the things going on. I sent an email today about clothing for the end of year performance. Please send in bright pink and green clothes in a bag marked with your child’s name.
Thank you for all the cardboard we are ready to start to build our city next week. We are all excited to think about showing the systems in a city and how they work together. Please ask your child about this l think you will be interested in their thinking.
We are also going to working on a final narrative piece next week thinking about bringing all the elements of story writing we have been developing. The children are really enjoying their writing.
Finally in math we are now working on developing our ability to read maps and give directions. To learn about co-ordinates we tried to play battleships, this proved quite difficult, so we shall work on it again week.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
On Tuesday we went on a trip to a landfill site. This was to learn about how a system works in the community. We covered the function of it. We also thought about how the systems connected to each other. For example the transport system collects the rubbish and takes it to the landfill site.
I have enjoyed this week so much! We have been thinking about how to make our stories come to life. We firstly looked at making interesting characters and then we thought about creating fantastic settings. We used drama and group games to work on listening to each others ideas. The children have been wonderful creative writers, begging to write in their writers notebooks!
Remember we have a trip on Tuesday and if any of you would like to help us on the day we would love to have you.
We used this website to develop our awareness of building a city, the needs and how these systems are connected together. This hits two of our lines of inquiry, what is a system and how the systems in a community are connected to our needs. If your child wants to play this at home l have included the link here.
We have started our new unit about city systems please see the attached unit letter.
To support our learning about this we are going on a field trip, Please see the attached information.
If you would like to join us on our field trip please contact me
